This Week's Message
Chaplain Liz Lahti-Rosensaft
God doesn't call the qualified; He qualifies the called, as demonstrated through the lives of Peter and Paul. Peter was an uneducated fisherman prone to impulsiveness, while Paul was a well-educated Pharisee who persecuted Christians. Through divine encounters, God transformed these unlikely candidates into pillars of the early church. Their stories teach us that our past mistakes, present circumstances, and personal limitations cannot disqualify us from God's purposes. When we embrace spiritual dependence, acknowledging our weaknesses, God's power works through us in extraordinary ways.
The BLESSING of the FLEET took place Sunday, June 15th at the Barnegat Light Viking Village Basin. This is an annual event sponsored by Zion Lutheran in conjunction with the island clergy and Barnegat Light community. Many thanks to the Zion members who participated; Rev. Wes Smith for organizing this event, Earl Hem for music, Ray Strotman and Sal Annarumma for audio, Joy & Jason Marr for the readings, Rev. Diane Burkland for prayer and Bob Preston for FaceBook recording. Also participating were Kirk Larsen, Mayor of Barnegat Light, Andrew Norris, Commander of the Barnegat Light Coast Guard Station and area clergy (see image below). The weather was not ideal this year but nonetheless, approximately 190 people attended the event.

Island Clergy blessing the Fleet were Rabbi Michael Jay from the Jewish Community Center of LBI , Rev. West Smith and Rev. Diane Burkland from Zion, and Fr. Kevin Daly from St. Francis Catholic Church on LBI.
